It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our colleague, mentor and most importantly our friend, Ric Coughlan.
“When a mentor dies, there is a unique kind of loss and heartbreak. We lose the future lessons we will not get to learn from them. We lose the person who saw in us the potential for more than we could see in ourselves. We lose a trusted and honest voice.”
Married for 56 years to his wife Patricia – he modeled his values through his love for his family, his friends, and his work every day. Ric was kind, humble, smart, and patient. A sixty-year lighting industry veteran, he knew his work and he was always willing to share his experience with us. Often you would hear “I can’t believe he hasn’t retired yet”, but Ric truly loved what he did. His mentorship was a gift of a lifetime and in our grief, we are reminded that it hurts so much because it meant so much.
We are forever grateful for everything he gave to us, and we will miss having him as a champion in our corner.
For those who wish, donations in lieu of flowers in Ric's honour to Canadian Cancer Society or Diabetes Canada would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
