Case Study - D’Altro Trancio Pizzeria – Portici, Italy

Project Case Studies | November 04, 2025 | The Lighting Exchange

In the heart of Portici’s Piazzale Brunelleschi, D’Altro Trancio Pizzeria blends traditional craftsmanship with a modern design sensibility to create a warm and welcoming dining experience.

Designed by Alessandro Di Prisco, the interior captures the authentic spirit of Italian hospitality through its use of simple, tactile materials and carefully balanced forms. Large windows fill the space with natural light, highlighting the interplay of textures — from the terracotta-brick counter that recalls the warmth of the oven to the lava stone countertop and snack bars, a nod to Vesuvian architecture and artisanal tradition.

The floor and wainscoting, finished in concrete-effect stoneware, provide continuity and calm, while rough, trowelled plaster in warm tones mirrors the natural hues of exposed brickwork. These raw materials are softened by rounded corners and curved elements that reference 1950s design, reinterpreted in a refined contemporary key.

Lighting plays a vital role in shaping the pizzeria’s atmosphere. The modular Dome arch system, also designed by Di Prisco and produced by Fabbian, introduces rhythm and architectural structure through its graceful repetition. Meanwhile, Lumi Sfera Wall fixtures cast a soft, diffused glow that enhances the warm palette and invites guests to linger. Their minimal, spherical design integrates seamlessly with the space, emphasizing the dialogue between light, texture, and form.

The result is a sophisticated balance of contrasts — the solidity of raw materials paired with the fluidity of modern lines — echoing the philosophy of D’Altro Trancio itself: authentic craftsmanship, refined with contemporary artistry.
